Peoria sits on the northwest edge of the Valley with a lot of open desert to its north and west, and monsoon outflow comes across it with nothing to slow it down. The trees planted in Vistancia, Westbrook Village, Fletcher Heights and the communities along Lake Pleasant Parkway are mostly palo verde, mesquite, sissoo and acacia, which are exactly the trees that go over in a sixty mile an hour gust when the canopy is too dense.
