Gilbert grew out of farmland, and a lot of it is still flood irrigated. That is why the trees in Agritopia, Morrison Ranch, Val Vista Lakes and the Heritage District are so big: ash, pecan, eucalyptus, cottonwood and pine that get deep water every couple of weeks and grow like it. In the newer communities out toward Power Ranch, Seville and Adora Trails the trees are the usual palo verde, mesquite and sissoo, growing fast in HOA yards.

A thinning every year or two takes that risk off the table for far less than a removal. In the HOA communities, expect the usual front yard reviews and the usual sissoo problems.
